What is paleoecology?

Paleoecology studies the interaction between organisms and their environment in the past. It uses data from fossils, subfossils, isotopes, etc. to reconstruct ecosystems. Housed in the Geography Department at the University of Nevada Reno, the Mensing Paleoecology Lab focuses on reconstructing past environments using pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs, charcoal, and isotope analysis
